What to Expect

Your clinician will begin by identifying the specific area(s) to be treated.
A thin layer of coupling gel will be applied to your skin. This gel ensures that the acoustic sound waves from the therapy device effectively transfer into the targeted tissues.
The treatment will start at a low intensity, with the clinician gradually increasing the power to a level that best suits your condition. You will be asked to provide feedback to help determine the most appropriate setting for your comfort and effectiveness.
As the therapy head moves over the treatment area, you may experience a mild to moderate aching sensation. Your clinician will check in with you throughout the session and adjust the device’s output as needed to optimize your treatment.
Once the session is complete, the coupling gel will be wiped away, and you can resume your normal activities.
Depending on your condition, your clinician may prescribe specific exercises to help strengthen the treated area. These exercises will be provided during your visit to support your recovery.
Mild discomfort or soreness after treatment is possible, but side effects are rare. In some cases, you may experience temporary redness or warmth around the treated area, which typically resolves quickly.
HOW LONG IS TREATMENT?
Typical Shockwave treatments are 30 minute sessions
Normally, 1-2 treatments per week are performed. A total of 1 session per week is necessary
With acute pain, a single session is often successful in helping to reduce pain
Chronic conditions will vary more in their number of sessions.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?
-
There are virtually no side effects of shockwave therapy.
-
Due to the nature of the therapy, it is normal to experience some mild to moderate discomfort while the therapy is being applied to the body.
-
After the treatment session is over, it is rare to have any lasting side effects. Rarely, there may be some slight soreness in the treatment area, which subsides within several hours.
